              Tom Osmond

Thomas Rulon Osmond was born in Ogden, Utah on October 26, 1947.
The second of nine children, he has one older brother, George Virl Osmond Jr. and seven younger siblings.
He is a member of the Osmond family, though he rarely performed with his musical family.

Tom and Virl were both born with severe hearing loss.
While Virl can hear and feel a musical beat, Tom was almost completely deaf.

Their younger brothers originally conceived the musical group in part to support Tom and Virl in purchasing hearing aids.
Tom and Virl eventually learned how to play several instruments. They even learned to play the saxophone.
Tom, who was fully deaf, even learned to play the piano by feeling the vibrations of the keys.
When Tom attended a school for the deaf, his teachers questioned why he wanted to play the piano, making their mother more determined to teach Tom so he could prove them wrong.

In later years they made occasional appearances with their brothers and sister, most notably the Christmas specials during the 1970s and early 1980s.
All nine Osmond siblings studied karate under Chuck Norris.

Both Virl and Tom are hearing impaired. Their disabilities were the inspiration for the Children's Miracle Network.
Olive Osmond started the Osmond Foundation, which sponsors the Children's Miracle Network. Marie Osmond serves as Chairperson of the Foundation.

Tom and Virl were also the first deaf missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Tom worked for the United States Postal Service for 28 years before retiring in 2014.
He was also a producer, known for Donny and Marie (1975), The Gift of Love (1978) and Jerry Visits (1971).
Tom also teaches American Sign Language (ASL) Masterclass

Tom has gained some hearing through medical treatment.
On July 7, 2018, Osmond underwent a quadruple bypass surgery, but had complications and was put on life support for several days before improving.
